Welcome to Faded Pickets

I live in a little cottage style house six blocks off the ocean. It has four bedrooms, two baths, a detached garage with a half bath and a pool. It’s really sounds impressive on paper, but in reality the house has been a “work in progress” ever since I met my now husband in 1998. Back then the house was, um, how do I say, in need of major TLC. I wish I would have thought to have taken pictures in the beginning…it really has come a long way.

The Hub and I married on Valentine’s Day 1999, before our marriage, we busily made the house livable (read: clean) for me and my daughter and worked hard to add my touch to it. For my first Mother’s Day after we married, The Hub built a white picket fence around the front of the house. A gift to me because he knew I was uncomfortable letting my five year old daughter play in the front yard. What a wonderful gift…a white picket fence around my beach cottage! (yes, this is one of the reasons I married him.)

I still love my faded pickets, these 10 years later. They warm my soul. They remind me of family and home. They remind me of home cooked meals and dinner around the table. They remind me of cool spring nights, warm summer days and Indian summers, sitting out on the front swing building memories.

Faded Pickets….My new journal. A tribute of sorts to our family…to home and happiness…to good home cooking…to memories built behind the fence.

Welcome and Enjoy!
